Our Place in Space: Derry~Londonderry

As part of the Unboxed 2022 project, we recently launched Our Place in Space – an epic space model of the solar system, that combines three-dimensional sculptures, a walking trail, an immersive AR app, and an educational festival.

What happens when an artist, an astro-physicist, and a space scientist get together to discuss the BIG questions? Well, it turns out they might have a lot more in common than you might expect!

Our Place in Space was officially launched in Derry~Londonderry on Earth Day, 22nd April 2022, with an in-conversation event, centring around the differing perspectives of Oliver Jeffers, Professor Stephen Smartt, and Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock – they explored the concepts behind Our Place in Space, what it means to be the only known planet to harbour life, and the importance of interdisciplinary STEAM subjects for the future of the earth.

The Our Place in Space sculpture trail will be in Derry~Londonderry until 22nd May 2022. From there, the trail will land on Divis and Black Mountain, in Belfast, then over to Cambridge, where it will subsequently finish in North Down, Northern Ireland.
